Devotion 1 of 2: Eccl 12
It feels like Solomon wrote this last chapter toward the end of his life. He is probably describing in very beautiful, poetic language what was happening to his own body in v.3-5. Below is a translation in straight language.
When legs and arms tremble, the back bends over, teeth are lost, eyesight dims (v.3), going out gets harder, hearing declines, sleep gets lighter, singing weakens (v.4), fear of falling increases, hair turns white, walking slows down and passions decrease, these are signs that death is approaching (v.5). Let’s always remember: Heaven is beyond death!
Devotion 2 of 2: John 12
In v.9-11, we see the effectiveness of the miracle of Lazarus’ resurrection. Many people gathered to see him, and many believed in Jesus because of Lazarus! When we do Jesus’ works, many will be saved at that time, too!
However, to do the works of Jesus, another condition is needed! Jesus said in v.24, “Unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.” To produce fruit, we must first die! This is why God will allow AC to persecute the church! Let’s bravely face AC’s persecution to produce fruit for Christ!
