Devotion 1 of 2: Eccl 9
I think in v.13-18, Solomon was expressing the worries he had about his own life. He was the poor wise man who saved Israel from other stronger kingdoms around it. But he was worried that no one would remember him.
Solomon feared that his wisdom would be despised and his words not heard (v.16)! But why would that happen? The answer is found in v.18: “One sinner destroys much good.” The “one sinner” represented Solomon’s lifestyle of marrying 1000 women and worshiping their idols. He feared that would destroy his legacy of wisdom! Let’s live a righteous life that will preserve our legacy!
Devotion 2 of 2: John 9
This whole chapter is about the conflict between the Pharisees and Jesus’ followers over whether Jesus was from God or not after He healed a blind man by putting clay on his eyes and telling him to wash at the Pool of Siloam (v.1-7). The reason for the controversy was because the healing had occurred on a Sabbath (v.14).
The Pharisees were sincere in their faith, but they had become servants of their traditions and the Law rather than God. In v.28 they said, “You are His disciple, but we are Moses’ disciples.” In the endtime, let’s not follow our traditions of Bible teaching, but genuine Bible truth!
