Devotion 1 of 2: Ps 48

This psalm describes Mount Zion and indicates her significance in God’s plan for His people, both Israel and the church. Mt. Zion is a mountain in Jerusalem where the City of David and David’s Tabernacle were (2 Sam 5:7; 1 Chron 15:1), but it’s also in the sides of the north (v.2) in heaven, which is the city of God (v.1, 8).
It symbolizes many things: Israel, the church, the Jews’ movement back to their homeland, etc. It can also be a picture of the 3 disciples closest to Jesus, as the 3, 12, and 70 disciples symbolize Zion, Jerusalem and Judah.

Devotion 2 of 2: 1 Cor 16

In this chapter Paul talks about collecting offerings and then shares plans and matters about ministry.
In v.2, he asks the Corinthians to gather their offerings on the 1st day of the week, indicating that the Corinth Church met together on Sundays, not Saturdays. Acts 20:7 also shows this, “Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to them…”
When did the church begin to worship on Sundays? From the 1st century, as Gentile believers increased.
