Devotion 1 of 2: Num 15

This chapter deals with several laws in Israel. One of them was the Sabbath in v.32-36. A man was discovered gathering sticks on the Sabbath day and was punished severely by being stoned to death!
Seventh Day Adventists and Messianic Jews believe in keeping Saturday as the Sabbath. Ex 31:16 does command Israel to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations as a perpetual covenant, but that covenant and Israel’s status as God’s special people ended at the cross. In the NT, we are no longer judged by the sabbath (Col 2:16)

Devotion 2 of 2: Num 16

This chapter describes the rebellion of some leaders (v.1-40) and then the whole congregation (v.41-50) against Moses and Aaron. There will always be problems between leaders because they lead; that is their calling; and often they don’t lead in the same direction. Sometimes it can be destructive, but sometimes it leads to progress.
The rebellion of Korah, Dathan and Abiram was bad (v.1-3) because their heart was wrong—they were jealous of Moses. So, they ended up destroyed (v.31-34). The Protestant rebellion was good because they valued truth above tradition!
