Devotion 1 of 2: Lev 25

V.8-17 speak about the 50th year, the Year of Jubilee. It was a year of liberty—liberty from work (v.11) and from debt (v.13-17). Liberty from debt meant return of possession, like land. If a person could not pay his debt, he usually “sold” (leased, in reality) his land for the amount of his debt until the Jubilee, when the land was returned.
Jesus proclaiming “the acceptable year of the Lord” in Luke 4:19 actually meant the Year of Jubilee. Through the anointing of the Spirit, liberty from poverty, sickness, captivity, blindness and oppression are all possible!

Devotion 2 of 2: Acts 25

In v.11, Paul appealed to Caesar, so in v.12, Governor Festus declared that he would be sent to Caesar. This is how Paul went to Rome, where he eventually was martyred. But why did Paul appeal to Caesar? It was because Festus wanted to send him to Jerusalem to stand trial (v.9), and Paul knew the Jews would kill him if he went there (v.10-11).
I believe Paul knew he would be killed, and he deliberately chose to die in Rome! Why? Because Rome was the capital of the Roman Empire with more exposure than Jerusalem, so he could influence more people there!
