Devotion 1 of 2: Prov 13

V.18 says, “Poverty and shame will come to him who disdains correction, but he who regards a rebuke will be honored.” No one likes correction or rebuke. If someone corrects or rebukes us, we might react in anger or cut off relationship with that person. It might cause a deep wound within us that keeps hurting for many years.
How can we overcome that and turn our ears to the correction and learn from it? I think confessing Bible verses like v.18 is one of the most effective ways of changing our attitude from rejection to acceptance of a rebuke. And, of course, asking God to give us the humility and grace to open our hearts to the correction will also help a lot!

Devotion 2 of 2: Luke 13

Let’s look at 2 Scriptures about Israel in this chapter. 1st, v.6-9, where Israel is symbolized by a fig tree. The owner came looking for fruit for 3 years but found none, so he gave the tree one more year, and if no fruit was produced, he ordered it to be cut down. This is a picture of Israel not believing Jesus as their Messiah for 3.5 years of His ministry, then, in 70 AD, they, their temple, and their capital city of Jerusalem were all destroyed by the Romans.
The 2nd Scripture is v.34-35. Jesus grieves over Jerusalem because they didn’t receive Him as Messiah, meaning their house would be desolated, or, their nation would be destroyed by Rome! 70 AD to 1948 was 1878 years of the Jews’ diaspora, until they were miraculously restored as a nation! God’s plan is to restore Israel to salvation and relationship with Him, which will take place at the 2nd coming of Christ to earth (Zech 14:1-4; 12:10; 13:1, 8-9)!
