Devotion 1 of 2: Prov 6
V.30 says, “People do not despise a thief if he steals to satisfy himself when he is starving.” This statement is not true in the story, “Les Misérables.” The hero, Jean Valjean, steals a loaf of bread to feed his starving sister and her children. But he is captured and punished severely, spending a total of 19 years in prison. But he isn’t reformed and ends up full of anger and hate because of the cruelty of the law.
It is only when Jean Valjean experiences grace and forgiveness that he changes. “Les Misérables” illustrates the truth of the Bible, how the law could not save man, but grace can! Let’s share this wonderful message of God’s love and grace to many “Jean Valjeans” around us and lead them to the Savior!

30節には「盗人が飢え、自分の飢えを満たすために盗んだとしたら、人々はその者をさげすまないであろうか。」とあります（英訳＝人々はその者をさげすみません）。しかし、この記述は『レ・ミゼラブル』には当てはまりません。主人公のジャン・バルジャンは、飢えに苦しむ妹とその子供たちのためにパンを盗みます。しかし、彼は捕らえられ、厳しい罰を受け、合計19年間も獄中生活を送ります。しかし、彼は改心することなく、法の残酷さゆえに怒りと憎しみに満たされることになります。
ジャン・バルジャンが変わるのは、神の恵みと赦しを経験した時です。『レ・ミゼラブル』は、法は人を救えなかったが、神の恵みは人を救ったという聖書の真理を描いています。この神の愛と恵みの素晴らしいメッセージを、一人でも多くの周辺の「ジャン・バルジャン」に伝え、救い主へと導いていきましょう。
Devotion 2 of 2: Luke 6
Let’s look at one difference between Jesus and the Pharisees in the story of the man healed of a withered hand (v.6-11). It happened on the Sabbath, and the Pharisees were filled with rage because that broke their “Sabbath Day laws!” The Pharisees were motivated by their traditions, but Jesus was motivated by doing good and saving people, not by traditions (v.9-10)!
Endtime application: Christianity has many traditional teachings about the last days. But Jesus wants to create an endtime world-wide revival and save as many people as possible. Let’s not get bound up by Christianity’s traditional viewpoint of the endtime and instead discover Jesus’ plan of the Last Day Revival in the Scriptures and pray for that to come to pass!

なえた右手が癒された人の話（6-11節）において、イエスとパリサイ人の違いを一つ見てみましょう。それは安息日に起こったことであり、パリサイ人は「安息日の律法」に違反したとして激怒しました。パリサイ人は伝統に突き動かされていましたが、イエスは伝統ではなく、善を行い、人々を救うことに突き動かされていました（9-10節）。
終末への適用：キリスト教には、終末について多くの伝統的な教えがあります。しかし、イエスは終末の世界規模のリバイバルを起こし、できるだけ多くの人々を救いたいと願っておられます。キリスト教の伝統的な終末観にとらわれることなく、聖書の中にイエスの終末リバイバルの計画を見つけ、それが実現するように祈りましょう。
