Devotion 1 of 2: Ezek 45
In this chapter there are instructions for the boundaries of land for the Lord (v.1), for the temple (v.2-3), for the priests (v.4), for the Levites (v.5), for Israel (v.6), and for the prince (v.7-8). There are also instructions for animal sacrifices in v.15-17 and v.18-25. Most teachers believe these sacrifices will be done in the Millennial temple.
The animal sacrifices present a theological problem because the Bible teaches that Christ died to end animal sacrifices (Heb 10:1-14). If this is so, what’s the need for animal sacrifices in the Millennium? The most common explanation is that they will not be for atonement, but probably for symbolic or memorial purposes.
In my application of Ezekiel’s temple to the LDR, I look at these animal sacrifices as symbolizing praise and worship, as Heb 13:15 teaches, “Let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, giving thanks to His name.”
Devotion 2 of 2: Phil 1
Today, we begin Philippians, which contains many wonderful truths. In v.19-26 Paul gives us a deep understanding of our purpose in life. It is to magnify Christ (v.20) or live for Christ (v.21) and to help others to believe in or grow in Christ (v.24-25). This is especially true for us if this world age will end in a few years!
Another understanding Paul imparts to us in this chapter is that to die is not fearful but a plus (v.21)! Dying is leaving this world with its many problems and being with Jesus in heaven (v.23)! And Paul declares this truth with such certainty and authority! Where did he get that authority?
I believe he got it from his NDE in Acts 14:19-20. Paul was stoned for preaching the gospel and died, but his disciples prayed, and he revived! And in 2 Cor 12:2-4, he says that he went to heaven and heard awesome things! So Paul could speak with authority because he had died and knew what it was like!
