Devotion 1 of 2: Ezek 44

This chapter deals with a variety of topics, but I would like to touch only on the east gate and its history of sealing and unsealing.
The East Gate was shut because the Lord entered by it (v.2). This refers to Jesus entering Jerusalem through this gate on Palm Sunday before the cross. Because the Jewish people believe that the Messiah will enter Jerusalem through this gate to rule on earth, the Muslims sealed it in 810 AD to prevent that from happening.
But the Crusaders reopened the east gate in 1102 AD because Christians believe that Jesus will return to earth to reign and will pass through the east gate. However, the Muslim once more sealed the gate in 1541 to stop the Jewish Messiah, whom they call the Antichrist, to pass through it! It’s still sealed today, but we believe that if Jesus wants to, He can easily supernaturally open the gate and enter Jerusalem through it!

Devotion 2 of 2: 1 Cor 16

In this chapter Paul touches on offerings before spending the rest of the chapter on personal exhortations and greetings. In v.12 Paul made some interesting comments that shed some light on his leadership style.
He said he saw Apollos, a prophet, and strongly urged him to go to Corinth with some brethren, but Apollos was unwilling to do so! Instead of getting upset at that, Paul honored Apollos’ decision and graciously said that Apollos would go when the time was convenient for him.
So, instead of commanding Apollos to do something he didn’t feel led to do, or reprimanding him for being rebellious, Paul recognized Apollos’ right to do as he felt led of God. Some pastors and government leaders have overstepped their authority and tried to rule other people’s lives, which God didn’t want them to do.
Let’s pray for pastors and government leaders to not force people to obey them but to respect people’s choices.
