Devotion 1 of 2: Ezek 42
I wrote on Tue, 6/10, that the temple in Ezek 40-48 symbolized a future temple. This was the temple in Jerusalem from which Christ would reign during the Millennial Kingdom. So, all of the descriptions of the temple, its gates, walls, rooms, courts, etc. in Ezekiel could be describing the actual temple that will be built on earth.
I want to present another application of Ezekiel’s temple. I believe it can also symbolize the LDC that will display the glory of God and draw millions of people into Christ’s kingdom. One reason I say that is because the church (Christians) is the temple of God for 1 Cor 6:19 says, “…your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit...”
Based on this, I look at chapter 40, which described several gates of the temple (40:6, 20, 24). These can symbolize people entering salvation (Jesus is the door, or gate!) from every nation in fulfillment of Rev 7:9-14!
Devotion 2 of 2: 1 Cor 14
This chapter deals with the problem of disorder in the Corinth Church’s services. It seems like they were so hungry for the moving of the Holy Spirit in their lives that when they got together, they would all talk to each other in tongues, which, of course, they could not understand, and neither could newcomers!
For that reason, Paul wrote in v.23, “Therefore if the whole church comes together in one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those who are uninformed or unbelievers, will they not say that you are out of your mind?” Because they were stumbling new people, Paul cautioned them to have more order in their services.
This chapter is important because it brings balance to the church. Ch. 12 teaches power, the 9 gifts of the Spirit. Ch. 13 teaches love, the importance of character. And Ch. 14 teaches order, or manners, or common-sense behavior. We need all 3!
