Devotion 1 of 2: 1 Kings 11

In this chapter we see Solomon marrying many foreign women, despite God commanding Israel not to intermarry (v.1-2). In total, he had 700 wives and 300 concubines (v.3)! When he became old, they turned his heart away from God to worship their pagan idols (v.4).
Idolatry caused the Golden Age of Israel to come crashing down. A prophet called Ahijah prophesied that because Solomon allowed idol worship of many gods, God would cause the nation to split and give 10 tribes to Jeroboam (v.29-35). This meant the end of a united Israeli kingdom.
Endtime application: The biggest test for the church will be AC’s threat of execution if we do not worship his idol. AC may threaten killing all church members if even one person doesn’t worship him. This would split churches, causing them to even fight against each other. Let’s prepare for whatever Satan throws against us in the future.

Devotion 2 of 2: 1 Kings 12

In this chapter, Israel is split into 2, northern Israel and southern Judah. After Solomon’s death, his son Rehoboam became king (11:43). Sadly, he failed the test of leadership when asked by his people to lighten the burdens that Solomon had placed on them (v.4). The burdens were needed for building the Temple.
Rehoboam asked the elders for advice, and they gave the perfect answer for good leadership in v.7, “If you will be a servant to these people today, and serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be your servants forever.” Sadly, Rehoboam refused their advice, and the northern tribes split from him (v.16)!
The USA is facing a crisis now that is tearing the nation in 2. What happened 3,000 years ago in Israel could save the USA today. Let’s learn to lead by humility and kindness and not by bullying.
