Devotion 1 of 2: 1 Kings 9
One disappointing thing about Solomon is the gift of 20 cities that he gave to King Hiram of Tyre after Hiram had supplied him with as much cedar, cypress and gold as he desired (v.11). When Hiram saw the cities, he was not pleased and called them Cabul, which means “good for nothing” (v.12-13)! Despite that, he sent Solomon another 120 talents of gold (v.14)!
Solomon was a stingy giver. He gave left-overs, cities that he didn’t really want. They were too old or dirty or poor; so, he gave them to Hiram! By contrast, Hiram was a model giver! He gave 120 talents of gold to Solomon despite getting “good for nothing” cities from him!
Sometimes we are tempted to give stingily to God. But I think God often responds like Hiram did! He gives us blessings of gold in return! Let’s seek to be more like Him and give out of a heart of love and gratitude!

ソロモンについて残念なことが一つありました。ツロの王ヒラムがソロモンの要請に応じて、杉ともみの木材、そして金を用立てたので、ソロモンは20の町をヒラムに与えましたが（11節）、ヒラムが町を見た時、気に入らなかったのです。だから「カブルの地」(何の役にも立たない)と呼びました（12-14節）。それでも、ヒラムはソロモンにさらに120タラントの金を贈りました。
ソロモンはケチな人でした。彼は余った町、つまり本当は必要のない町を与えました。古すぎたり、汚れていたり、貧弱すぎたりした町をヒラムに与えたのです。対照的に、ヒラムは模範的な施し手でした。ソロモンから「何の役にも立たない」町を受け取ったにもかかわらず、120タラントの金をソロモンに与えたのです。
私たちは時々、神に与えることについてケチになろうという誘惑に駆られます。しかし、それでも、神はしばしばヒラムのように、その見返りに黄金の祝福を与えてくださるのです。私たちはもっと神に似た者となり、愛と感謝の心で与えていきましょう。
Devotion 2 of 2: 1 Kings 10
The famous story of the Queen of Sheba hearing of Solomon’s amazing kingdom and coming to see if what she heard was true or not is found in this chapter. This can be applied to seekers coming to church because of the rumors they hear about what great things Jesus is doing in our midst! Let’s be that kind of church!
But in v.14, we read, “The weight of gold that came to Solomon yearly was six hundred and sixty-six talents of gold.” I think this is a warning to us that when God blesses the church, we should never get distracted by money! If we do, we’ll end up a victim of AC, because that’s his number (Rev 13:18)!
The way to overcome AC and Satan is found in Rev 12:11, “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death,” and by not loving money! 1 Tim 6:10, “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.”

シェバの女王がソロモンの驚くべき王国について聞き、それが真実かどうか確かめに来たという有名な話がこの章にあります。これは、イエス様が教会で素晴らしいことをしているという噂を聞いて教会に来る求道者たちにも当てはまります。私たちはそのような噂が広がっていく教会になりたいです！
しかし、14節には「一年間にソロモンのところに入って来た金の重さは、金の目方で六百六十六タラントであった。」とあります。これは、神が教会を祝福されるとき、私たちは決してお金に惑わされてはならないという警告だと思います。もし惑わされたら、反キの虜になってしまうでしょう。なぜなら、あの金の目方の666タラントは反キの数字だからです(黙13:18)！
反キとサタンに打ち勝つ方法は、黙12:11にあります。「兄弟たちは、小羊の血と･･･あかしのことばのゆえに彼に打ち勝った。彼らは死に至るまでもいのちを惜しまなかった。」 そして、お金を愛さないことです！ 1テモ6:10「金銭を愛することが、あらゆる悪の根だからです。」
