Devotion 1 of 1: Ps 120

V.2 says, “Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips and from a deceitful tongue.” I remember watching a TV show interviewing contestants in a Miss Teenage America Contest. One contestant was asked, “What quality do you think is most important in a boyfriend?” Her answer was immediate, “To be sincere and honest.”
Why didn’t she answer, “To be handsome,” or “To be cool,” or “To be rich and successful,” or “To be smart,” etc.? I think it was because she didn’t want to be deceived by half-truths or lies. She wanted to have a boyfriend she could really trust.
During their 3 years of war with Ukraine, the Russian military has been shown to be very weak and quick to surrender. One report said up to 40K Russian soldiers have surrendered! If it’s true, that’s an abysmal rate of failure! But why is that?
Some reasons are lack of food, weapons, uniforms, training, etc. But I believe another key reason is because their commanders are corrupt! They order their soldiers to risk their lives and fight on the frontline but won’t do it themselves! What they order to do and what they themselves do are different! Their commands are deceitful and not trustworthy! A good army, or nation, or church, or marriage, or workplace should be built on trust!
Like David, let’s cry out to God to remove lies and deceit from our lips!

2節には、「主よ。私を偽りのくちびる、欺きの舌から、救い出してください。」とあります。ミス・ティーンエイジ・アメリカ・コンテストの出場者をインタビューするテレビ番組を見たのを覚えています。ある出場者が「ボーイフレンドに最も大切な資質は何だと思いますか?」と尋ねられました。彼女は即答で、「誠実で正直であること」と答えました。
なぜ彼女は「ハンサムであること」や「格好いいこと」や「裕福で成功していること」や「頭が良いこと」などと答えなかったのでしょうか? 本当ではないことや嘘に騙されたくなかったからだと思います。彼女は本当に信頼できるボーイフレンドが欲しかったのです。
ウクライナとの3年間の戦争中、ロシア軍は非常に弱く、すぐに降伏することが示されました。ある報告によると、最大4万人のロシア兵が降伏したそうです！もしそれが本当なら、それはひどい失敗率です！でも、なぜでしょうか？
理由としては、食料、武器、軍服、訓練などの不足が挙げられます。しかし、もう一つの重要な理由は、指揮官が腐敗しているからだと思います！彼らは兵士たちに命を危険にさらして前線で戦うよう命じますが、自分たちはそうしません！彼らが命じることと自分たちが行うことは違います！彼らの命令は欺瞞的で、信頼に値しません！良い軍隊、国家、教会、結婚、職場は信頼の上に築かれるべきです！
ダビデのように、私たちの口から嘘と欺瞞を取り除くよう神に叫びましょう！
