Devotion 1 of 2: 1 Sam 29
In the final battle of Saul against the Philistines, because David is living in Philistine land, he is scheduled to fight with the Philistines against Israel. However, although Achish agrees to this, the other leaders of the Philistines don’t, so David is ordered to leave the battlefield (v.1-7).
This was the Lord’s way of protecting David from fighting against his own countrymen and against King Saul, whom he twice refused to lift his hand against because he was the Lord’s anointed! So, when we walk with the Lord, He opens a way where there seems to be no way to prevent us from sinning! PTL!

Devotion 2 of 2: 1 Sam 30
This chapter is the story of restoration: how David and his men recovered all of their families and possessions that were stolen by the Amalekites from their town Ziklag (v.1-3, 18-19). Let’s see how this seemingly impossible restoration happened.
When David and his men went away to battle, the Amalekites took everything of theirs. When they returned at saw everything gone and their town destroyed by fire, David and his men could do nothing but weep bitterly! But very quickly anger took over! David’s men were very upset and even spoke of stoning him (v.6)! Nothing crushes revival faster than disunity, anger, and infighting! The church must overcome disunity in order to be restored!
Appl: But how did David change this disaster to a glorious restoration victory? And how does that apply to us?
1) David strengthened himself in the Lord (v.6b)! We can strengthen ourselves through confessing the Word!
2) He sought the ephod to know God’s will (v.7). The Lord’s will was, “Go!” When they obeyed, they were able to recover all that they had lost! The church will be restored when we seek, find and obey God’s will!
