Devotion 1 of 2: Num 23
NUM 23: Answers!
1) 1st prophecy: “Balak the king of Moab has brought me from Aram, from the mountains of the east. ‘Come, curse Jacob for me, and come, denounce Israel!’ “How shall I curse whom God has not cursed? And how shall I denounce whom the Lord has not denounced?” (v.7b-8)
2) 2nd prophecy: “Behold, I have received a command to bless; He has blessed, and I cannot reverse it” (v.20).
3) My name Elmer was like a curse to me because I was always called “Elmer Fudd” and laughed at in school while growing up. But later, when others were laughing at a man because of his name, I felt compassion for him and told the people to stop laughing.
Then the Lord showed me that he allowed me to go through the embarrassment of my name in order to change my heart from a Levite and priest to a Good Samaritan. In the Good Samaritan story, the Levite and priest didn’t stop to help a wounded traveler, but the Samaritan man did stop and help him because he had gone through a lot of attacks, rejection and hurts from the Jews, so he could feel compassion for what the wounded man was going through. So I realized that my name was not a curse but a blessing and thanked God for giving me that name.
