Devotion 1 of 1: Gen 33
When Jacob offered to give a gift of livestock to Esau, Esau declined it, saying he had enough (v.9). So God blessed both brothers abundantly in material wealth! Let’s pray some in the church will be successful in business and become wealthy so they can give to God's kingdom!
GEN 34 answers:
1) She was violated by Shechem (v.2).
2) Jacob and his sons deceived Shechem and his people by promising to give Dinah in marriage if they all receive circumcision (v.13-17). But while they were in pain, Dinah’s brothers, Simeon and Levi, killed all of Shechem’s people (v.25).
3) Jacob prophesied that they would be divided in Jacob and scattered in Israel (Gen 49:7).
4) It was fulfilled by Simeon losing his own inheritance and having to settle in Judah’s land (Josh 19:1). And Levi had no inheritance of land for themselves, but they were given 48 cities plus the surrounding land from among the tribes of Israel to dwell in (Num 35:1-8).
Though God punished Simeon and Levi for their sin, he also showed them mercy and turned their punishment into blessings!
