Devotion 1 of 2: 2 Chron 23
1) High Priest Jehoiada gathered priests, Levites, leaders and the people, gave them weapons and assigned them to protect Joash before presenting him as the son of the previous king, Ahaziah, and therefore the rightful new king (v.1-11). We as NT priests want to present Jesus as the King of Kings to the people of Japan so that many will learn about him and accept him as Savior!
2) Athaliah made herself queen by killing the royal family (22:10, 12), but in the end she was rejected and executed for her evil (v.15). We are called to be kings, but we don’t want to try to do it by our own efforts! We want to be led by the Holy Spirit and become kings by God’s power!

Devotion 2 of 2: 2 Chron 24
When Joash’s mentor, the High Priest Jehoiada, was alive, Joash was a great king, taking charge of restoring the temple (v.4-14). But after Jehoiada died (v.15), Joash listened to other people and began to serve idols (v.17-18). Zechariah, the son of Jehoiada, rebuked Judah for this, but Joash commanded he be stoned (v.20-22)! As a result, God allowed a small Syrian army to defeat a larger Judean army, and Joash was assassinated by his own servants (v.23-25)! This shows the importance of having good mentors in our lives that help us to keep following the Lord!
