Devotion 1 of 2: 1 Cor 16
1) Because most of the members were Gentiles, and they wanted to separate from Judaism to get away from its legalistic spirit. So instead of Saturday, Sunday was a good substitute because Jesus resurrected on that day and the Holy Spirit and the birth of the church occurred on that day.
2) A. It is giving a tenth of your income to the Lord.
B. The basis of tithing is found in Abraham, our father of faith (Gen 14:18-20; Gal 3:6). Abraham met Melchizedek, who taught him that God was Possessor of heaven and earth (owned everything, including Abraham’s and our possessions!) and that God had delivered Abraham’s enemies into his hand (everything we accomplish is because God helps us do it!). So Abraham gave a tenth to Melchizedek as a sign that he recognized these two truths and to show his appreciation to God.
C. We should because we want to “walk in the footsteps of the faith that our father Abraham had” (Rom 4:12b)!

Devotion 2 of 2: Ezek 44
The priests were commanded to wear linen and not wool because God didn’t want them to wear something that caused sweat (v.18)! Israel is a hot country so this command is understandable from a natural point of view. But there is also a spiritual meaning here. God doesn’t want his priests to be sweating, or doing things by their own efforts, while they are ministering! He wants us to walk in the Spirit, to be in rest and just follow his leading. Jesus is the greatest example of this. He said in John 5:19, “The Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise.” Let’s follow Jesus and learn “not to sweat” as we serve him, but just do what we see Jesus doing!
