Devotion 1 of 2: Josh 15
This chapter explains the division of the land to the tribe of Judah. But we see a surprising fact in v.63, “As for the Jebusites, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the children of Judah could not drive them out; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Judah at Jerusalem to this day.”
Jerusalem, which became the capital of Israel under David, the Jebusites were not all driven out! This is written as a warning to the LDC: Even in the LDR, there is always the danger of fleshly sin appearing! Let’s always keep our spiritual eyes open!
Devotion 2 of 2: Josh 16
The tribe of Ephraim also did not completely drive out the inhabitants of the land, as v.10 explains, “And they did not drive out the Canaanites who dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwell among the Ephraimites to this day and have become forced laborers.”
This pattern of Israel not driving out all the inhabitants led to pagan practices of idolatry, child sacrifice, temple prostitution, etc., invading Israeli life, resulting in Israel losing their land! Let’s not let the world or AC rob us of purity and revival!
