Devotion 1 of 2: Deut 25
V.13-16 talk about not using different weights or measures but only a perfect and just weight or measure. I believe this means we should not use one standard to benefit ourselves and another standard for others to their loss. In other words, we should strive to be completely honest in our dealings with people.
Dishonesty is such a strong tendency in human nature. It’s a survival of the fittest kind of mentality. In sports like soccer and basketball, players bump into each other and always argue for their own advantage. Let’s seek to live with only one standard.
Devotion 2 of 2: Deut 26
According to Moses, Abraham, the father of the nation of Israel, was a Syrian (v.5)! What does this mean? And, is it true? Let’s examine the Scriptures. Gen 11:27-30 says that Abraham’s father, Terah, lived in Ur of the Chaldeans. This would mean Abraham’s family were originally Chaldeans.
But after Abraham married Sarah, his father moved their families and headed for Canaan, but settled in Haran, which is in the Turkey-Syrian area. Abraham may have lived there for 50 years before finally leaving for Canaan, so this is why he was a Syrian. It’s good to know your roots.
