Devotion 1 of 2: Ps 28
V.4 says, “Give them according to their deeds, and according to the wickedness of their endeavors…” David prayed for God to punish the wicked according to their deeds.
But Jesus said on the cross, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do” (Luke 23:34). So, is it permissible for Christians to pray like David did, or should we pray like Jesus did?
There are times we should pray for punishment and times we should pray for forgiveness. It depends on the circumstances and on the leading of the Holy Spirit. Let’s endeavor to be led by the Spirit.

Devotion 2 of 2: Rom 12
V.14 says, “Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.” This verse fits precisely into what we discussed about Ps 28! It aligns with how Jesus prayed for forgiveness for His enemies on the cross. I believe this should be our lifestyle for most of the times that people oppose us wrongly.
But once in a while we must pray like David did, asking God to punish the wicked. This is my personal opinion, but I think Russia’s invasion and indiscriminate destruction of Ukraine is one of those times. But I also pray that Russians will be saved.
