Devotion 1 of 2: Num 25
After God turned Balaam’s curses into blessings and gave them victory in Num 23-24, Israel failed spectacularly in this chapter by committing harlotry with Moab and worshiping Baal (v.1-2)! As a result, a plague broke out, killing 24,000 people (v.9)!
Phinehas stopped the plague by thrusting a javelin through a Jewish man and Moabit woman engaged in immorality (v.6-8). As a reward, God gave him the covenant of peace for stopping God’s wrathful judgment (v.12).

民23-24章で、神はバラムの呪いを祝福に変え、イスラエルに勝利を与えましたが、この章では、イスラエルはモアブと姦淫を行い、バアルを崇拝するという大失敗を犯しました（1-2節）。その結果、疫病が発生し、2万4千人が命を落としたのです（9節）。

Devotion 2 of 2: Num 26
This chapter gives some details of Israel’s 2nd census. I found v.11 interesting: “Nevertheless the children of Korah did not die.” In Num 16, Korah, a great-grandson of Levi, led a rebellion against Moses and Aaron. But God punished them, and they perished when the earth opened up and swallowed them and their families!
But some of Korah’s children survived because they were already adults and didn’t join Korah’s rebellion! Praise God for those who obey God above their family elders! One famous descendant of Korah was Samuel (1 Chron 6:33).
5/2（土）民26章（デボーション2）
この章では、イスラエルの2回目の人口調査について詳細が述べられています。11節の「しかしコラの子たちは死ななかった」という記述が特に興味深かったです。民16章では、レビの曾孫であるコラがモーセとアロンに反逆しましたが、神は彼らを罰し、地が裂けて彼らとその家族を飲み込み、彼らは滅びました。
しかし、コラの子孫の中には、すでに成人していたためコラの反逆に参加しなかった者が生き残りました。家族の長老よりも神に従う者たちに、神の祝福がありますように。コラの子孫の一人として有名なのがサムエルです（歴代誌上6:33）。
