Devotion 1 of 2: Lev 27
This chapter talks about complicated issues concerning redeeming people and possessions that were given to the Lord. An example of someone given totally to the Lord is Samuel (1 Sam 1:28).
But why would Hannah want to redeem Samuel later on? I imagine if tragedy struck and his other brothers died and the family needed Samuel to inherit and work the land to keep it in the family, they would need to redeem him. In that case, they would have to pay 50 shekels (v.3). But if they were poor, the price would be adjusted (v.8).

Devotion 2 of 2: Acts 27
From this chapter Paul’s voyage from Caesarea to Rome begins. Through this story Paul transforms from an ignored prisoner to a highly-respected man of authority! We want the church to be respected, so let’s learn from Paul!
After a rough start, Paul gives a warning that the voyage will end in disaster (v.10), but was ignored (v.11). But through Paul’s courage and accurate predictions of what would happen, his spiritual authority is recognized, and in the end the centurion respects Paul above all others! Let’s be a people who hear and speak God’s words!
