Devotion 1 of 2: Gen 9
In v.20-27, we read the story of how Noah’s 3 sons, Ham, Shem and Japheth handled the situation of their father getting both drunk and naked. Ham saw it and told his 2 brothers about it. Shem and Japheth, on the other hand covered Noah’s nakedness without looking at him.
Ham symbolizes one who talks about people’s faults to others, whereas his brothers symbolize those who don’t do that. To fulfill this year’s key verse in John 17:22, “…that they may be one…” we need to be like Shem and Japheth and not like Ham.

This chapter lists the descendants of Noah’s 3 sons and some of their accomplishments. One prominent descendant of Ham was Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the Lord (v.9). He also was quite a builder, building Babel and Nineveh (v.10-11), two influential city-kingdoms of ancient times.
