Devotion 1 of 2: Hos 4
In this chapter, the Lord exposes the sins of Israel. Some of them were: no faithfulness, no love, no acknowledgment of God (v.1), cursing, lying, murder, stealing, adultery, shedding blood, etc. (v.2).
One particular sin that exemplified Israel’s moral corruption was shrine prostitution (v.14). Israel had adopted the immoral practice of using sexual intercourse as a form of worship! Prostitutes, both men and women, worked at their pagan temples, engaging in sexual acts as a sacrifice to their idols.
Apparently, Gomer had been caught up in this form of idol worship for several years and had begotten children through it. But eventually she was discarded as not desirable anymore, and was sold like a slave! Hosea found her in misery and shame, betrayed and forsaken by the temple, and he redeemed her! This is Jesus’ love!

この章で、主はイスラエルの罪を暴露されます。その中には、真実がない、誠実がない、神を知らない（1節）、呪い、欺き、人殺し、盗み、姦通、流血など（2節）がありました。
イスラエルの道徳的腐敗を象徴する罪の一つは、神殿娼婦（14節）でした。イスラエルは、性行為を崇拝の一形態とする不道徳な慣習を取り入れていました。男女を問わず、売春婦が異教の神殿で働き、偶像への供物として性行為を行っていました。
ゴメルは何年間もこの偶像崇拝にとらわれ、それによって子供をもうけていたようです。しかし、やがて彼女はもはや望ましくない者として捨てられ、奴隷のように売られてしまいました。ホセアは、神殿に裏切られ、見捨てられ、悲惨で恥辱に満ちた彼女を見つけ、救い出しました。これこそイエスの愛です。
Devotion 2 of 2: John 4
This chapter contains the famous story of Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well. She symbolizes how a broken and failed life can be transformed into something precious and valuable. 1st, Jesus offers her living water (salvation), which will quench her thirst forever (v.10-14).
Then He shocks her by telling her she has had 5 husbands and was now living together with a man who was not her husband (v.18). Finally, He answers her question about who is the true God and where we should worship Him (v.19-24). Through Jesus’ answers, she realizes that He is the Messiah people have been waiting for (v.25)!
This revelation ignites a fire inside her that causes her to forget her waterpot, run back to the city and tell everyone that she had found the Messiah (v.28-30). A revival erupts, and her whole city is won to Jesus (v.39-42)!

この章には、井戸端でイエスとサマリアの女が出会う有名な物語が記されています。彼女は、破れ果てた人生がいかに貴重で価値あるものへと変容するかを象徴しています。まず、イエスは彼女に、永遠に渇きを癒す生ける水（救い）を提供されます（10-14節）。
そして、イエスは彼女に5人の夫がいたにもかかわらず、今は夫ではない男性と同棲していることを告げ、彼女を驚かせます（18節）。最後に、真の神は誰なのか、そしてどこで神を礼拝すべきなのかという彼女の問いにイエスは答えられます（19-24節）。その答えを通して、彼女はイエスこそ人々が待ち望んでいたメシアであることを悟ります（25節）。
この啓示は彼女の心に火を灯し、彼女は水がめを忘れて町へ駆け戻り、メシアを見つけたと皆に告げます（28-30節）。彼女によってリバイバルが起こり、その町全体がイエスに導かれるようになるのです（39-42節）。
