Devotion 1 of 2: Song 7
Once more, the Beloved describes the Shulamite’s body in graphic imagery in v.1-9, using poetic expressions of love that stir her passion. We Christian men should be challenged from this passage to want to learn how to create the right atmosphere for intimate intercourse by using words that stimulate our wives.
The Shulamite responds to her Beloved’s invitation by readily giving herself to him and accepting his desire for her (v.10). Her words in v.9b-13 show that the Beloved successfully stimulated her to want to make love to him (v.12b).
The intimate conversations of these two lovers give us a model to aim for in our own intimate talk with our wives! But, of course, we’ll need to use more modern expressions than those found in the Song of Solomon! Let’s ask the Lord to guide us.
Devotion 2 of 2: 1 Tim 6
Many Scriptures teach that God wants to bless His people with prosperity and health. Some examples are:
*Gen 39:23 “…the Lord was with him (Joseph); and whatever he did, the Lord made it prosper.”
*Deut 8:18 “You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth…”
*Josh 1:8 “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth…for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”
*Prov 3:9-10 “Honor the Lord with your possessions…so your barns will be filled with plenty...”
*2 Cor 9:6 “He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.”
*3 John 2 “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.”
But we also need balance, which v.10 gives, “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil...” This verse warns us that if we love money, it can open the door to all kinds of evil. So, let’s aim for a healthy balance of believing for prosperity but not falling into the trap of loving money. Let’s be willing to give it away for God’s work!
