Devotion 1 of 2: Prov 28

V.15 says, “Like a roaring lion and a charging bear is a wicked ruler over poor people.” This verse applies especially to kings, dictators, and authoritarian rulers. They pick poor and weak people and blame them for causing problems in society and use that as an excuse to persecute and kill them.
This is what Hitler did against the Jews; Japan against Asian countries; Mao Zedong against counterrevolutionary groups; the Khmer Rouge of Cambodia against urban intellectuals; Putin is doing that against Ukrainians; Netanyahu against the Palestinians; and the U.S. against Latin American migrants.
Let’s pray that these rulers will lose their power, and the poor will find salvation and help in Christ!

Devotion 2 of 2: 1 John 4

V.2-3a say, “By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God.”
Let’s learn about discerning spirits from these 2 verses. What does “confessing that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh” mean? “Jesus” is the name of the man born through Mary, whose father was not human but God.
“Christ” is Greek for the Hebrew “Messiah,” with both meaning “The Anointed One,” and also “Savior.” Jews believe when Messiah comes, He will save Israel from her enemies.
“Has come in the flesh” implies Jesus existed in heaven and came down to earth in human form. So, the phrase in question means believing that Jesus is the Son of God who came to earth as a man to save mankind.
