Devotion 1 of 2: Ezek 37
This chapter is comprised of 2 parables. The 1st is the famous vision of the valley of dry bones in v.1-14, and the 2nd is the joining of 2 sticks of Judah and Joseph (Ephraim, Israel) into one in v.15-28. I believe these 2 prophetic parables apply first to the nation of Israel, but also apply to the endtime church.
Application to Israel: The valley of dry bones accurately prophesies the Jews returning to their land and becoming a nation again in 1948—the greatest miracle of the 20th century (v.13-14)! The two sticks becoming 1 and David ruling over them (v.19, 24) will be fulfilled during the Millennium.
Application to the church: The dry bones receiving the breath of God and becoming a united army (v.10, 17) will be fulfilled when the church is empowered by the Spirit and is transformed into the united LD revival church!
Devotion 2 of 2: 1 Cor 9
The problem that Paul is dealing with in this chapter is that some people in the Corinth Church opposed giving support to Paul for his ministry (v.3, 6). In response to this, Paul states that God commands that those who preach the gospel should live from the gospel (v.14). However, I could not find any Bible verse that specifically says that.
So, I believe what Paul is referring to are parables in the Bible that can be applied to that principle, like: Soldiers who go to war are paid (v.7, Luke 3:14); Farmers who plant vineyards eat its grapes (v.7, 2 Ki 19:29); Shepherds who care for a flock drink its milk (v.7, Pro 27:26-27); etc.
Another parable that Paul quotes is in v.9, “You shall not muzzle an ox while it treads out the grain” (Deut 25:4). Paul says more than oxen, God was talking about ministers living from the gospel (v.10-12)! Let’s search out the meaning of parables in the Bible because they’re important!
