Devotion 1 of 2: Ezek 5
This chapter is a judgment against Judah for their wickedness and disobedience (v.6). One judgment I want to point out is something the Lord had never done before and never will do again. He will allow fathers to eat their sons and sons to eat their fathers (v.9-10)!!
This judgment was fulfilled during Babylon’s siege of Jerusalem when all food supply into the city was cut off, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem were starved into surrender. After eating all the animals, the people began eating one another until they were too weak to fight, and Babylon conquered them!
Endtime application: Although we will not see cannibalism, Jesus did say parents will betray children, children will betray parents, and brothers will betray brothers (Mark 13:12)! Let’s prepare ourselves so we will not be that people!
Devotion 2 of 2: Matt 5
Chapters 5-7 are called the Sermon on the Mount. V.10-12 speak about how the persecuted are actually blessed, and their reward in heaven will be great. These verses will apply very directly to the LDC, which will be severely persecuted by AC, even to the point of martyrdom!
The famous verses about believers being the salt and light of the world (v.13-14) come right after the persecution verses, as if to say that especially in times of persecution we should be the salt and light of the world!
If that is so, the salt losing its flavor and the light being hidden take on added meaning. It means that if we try to avoid persecution, we are no longer salt or light but are worthless and should be thrown out! With this understanding, let’s determine to be worthy of our calling as salt and lights in the endtime!
