Devotion 1 of 2: Jer 46

In this chapter, Jeremiah prophesies that Egypt will attack Babylon from the south (v.1-12), but Babylon would defeat Egypt (v.13-26). And concerning the Jews in Egypt, Jeremiah prophesies God will be with them; He will terminate the nations to which they were driven, but will not completely terminate them (v.27-28).
V.27-28 seem to contradict what God said in 44:12, which was that the Jews who escaped to Egypt would be killed by Babylon. But this contradiction is solved by v.28b, “But I will not make a complete end of you. I will rightly correct you, for I will not leave you wholly unpunished.”
In other words, many of the Jews who fled to Egypt were killed, but not all. That was the punishment they received for their idolatry. In the endtime, we will sometimes see God’s mercy appear in the midst of punishment. So, let’s never stop praying for God’s mercy to be shown to unbelievers.

Devotion 2 of 2: 1 Pet 2

V.4-10 describe Jesus as the living stone, rejected by men but chosen by God (v.4). These verses apply to when Jesus came as the Messiah the first time. But the Jews rejected Him because they didn’t understand the plan of God. They thought the Messiah would free them from Rome and rebuild the kingdom of Judah, but God’s plan was the Messiah would die for mankind and build a spiritual kingdom of God for all humanity!
Because they didn’t understand this, Jesus became the stone of stumbling and rock of offense to them (v.8). The Jews stumbled because they were disobedient to the word, the plan of God which Jesus taught.
In the endtime, the church is facing a similar situation. Jesus has a plan for a great endtime revival, but much of the church doesn’t understand it, so they reject it and stumble over restoration and revival teaching. Let’s pray for God to open the eyes of the church so they don’t reject, but receive God’s endtime revival!
