Devotion 1 of 2: Jer 33
This chapter contains the powerful promise of God to restore Israel and Judah to their land. This promise also applies to the church. But in order for this promise to be fulfilled, God says He needs to cleanse His people from their iniquities (v.8). Yes, cleansing of sin must happen before restoration can take place.
God promised the desolated cities of Judah will once more be filled with joy, and shepherds will cause their flocks to lie down (v.10-13). He even promised to send the Messiah (v.14-18)! What’s more, God vowed that this covenant promise of restoration is as sure as the coming of day and night is sure (v.19-21)!
Finally, the Lord promised as the stars and sand cannot be numbered, so He would multiply David’s descendants! This is the reason we can say that this promise also applies to the church, because the number of Christians is much larger than the number of natural Jews. This promise is the same as Rev 7:9-14!
Devotion 2 of 2: Rom 5
V.1-5 teach that if we are justified by faith, have peace with God and access into His grace, we can glory in tribulations! In the endtime, we will enter the tribulation, so we should learn how we can glory in tribulations. We can do it by realizing tribulations help mature our character so that the love of God always rules over us. Love is the ultimate character that we should aim for because Love fulfills all the commandments of God.
Corrie Ten Boom suffered unimaginable pain and agony by the Nazis in their concentration camp. She lost her whole family in the camp. Her heart was filled with anger and hate toward Germany. She questioned why God allowed that horrific calamity.
But God spoke to her if she didn’t forgive Germany, God couldn’t forgive her. The Bible reminded her to love her enemies. So, she forgave Germany, and after that, God used her in a mighty way to lead thousands of people in Europe into reconciliation with Germany. She became an anointed messenger of forgiveness and healing!
