Devotion 1 of 2: 2 Sam 7
In this chapter David strongly desires to build a house for the Ark of the Covenant, a dwelling place for God (v.2-5). God answers that it won’t be David, but his son who builds the House of God (v.12-13). This was fulfilled when David’s son, Solomon, built what is known as Solomon’s Temple (1 Kings 6).
But God honored David’s heart and promised that David’s house and kingdom would be established forever (v.16)! This became known as the Davidic Covenant.
I believe one reason why God didn’t want David to build His temple was because He wanted David’s Tabernacle to be the symbol of the glorious, revival LDC, and Solomon’s Temple to be the symbol of the Millennial Kingdom of Christ on earth. Like David, let’s by faith humbly thank God for making our house, SI, an LDC (v.18-29).
Devotion 2 of 2: 2 Sam 8
This chapter perhaps reveals the very peak of Israel’s Golden Age under King David. David conquered all the nations he faced, including: the Philistines (v.1), Moab (v.2), Zobah (v.3), Syria (v.5), Ammon, Amalek (v.12) and Edom (v.14). Also, he collected much spoils and tributes from them, accumulating an immense fortune (v.10-11).
Not only did Israel’s kingdom increase greatly in land size, but they also ruled over the land with justice and peace through an excellent leadership team (v.15-18)! This became the foundation of Solomon’s kingdom, which, alongside David’s, became known throughout the world as the greatest kingdom on earth!
Let’s believe God will make the LDC the greatest source of righteous, justice and joy on earth in the endtime!
