Devotion 1 of 2: Ps 143

Although David was the greatest king of Israel, he seemed to have had many distresses! It seems he often felt guilty about his past sins, as he states in v.2, “Do not enter into judgment with Your servant, for in Your sight no one living is righteous.” Sometimes he felt so distressed that he felt he was being overwhelmed (v.4).
How did David overcome his feelings of guilt? V.8 gives us a hint: “Cause me to hear Your lovingkindness in the morning, for in You do I trust; cause me to know the way in which I should walk, for I lift up my soul to You.” David had to realize how loving and kind God was! If we sincerely confess and repent of our sins, God is merciful and kind and forgives us completely.
This is the message of the cross. This is the meaning of grace. When we really grasp it and thank God for it, we are forgiven from all our sins and are set free from all guilt! We can be liberated from all condemnation and live in joy and freedom! Let’s really understand the gospel of grace and how deeply God loves each one of us!

Devotion 2 of 2: 2 Thess 3

The Thessalonian Church must have had a terrible problem with people who didn’t work but hung around to eat free meals. I think that’s why Paul instructed in a very strict way how to deal with that problem in v.6-15. This is what he told them…
Withdraw from them (v.6)
If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat (v.10).
They should work in quietness and eat their own bread (v.12).
Do not keep company with him that he may be ashamed (v.14a).
Although Paul seemed very strict, in the end he also showed a glimmer of love and kindness when he told the Thessalonians in v.15, “Do not count him as enemy, but admonish him as a brother” (v.15). Yes, let’s never forget love when we deal with other human beings!
