Devotion 1 of 2: Ps 142

The foreword of this psalm says this was a prayer of David when he was in the cave. This was where he was hiding when Saul came in for a while in 1 Sam 24. I believe David prayed this psalm before Saul came into the cave.
While he was praying, David was quite stressed out. He complained about his trouble to the Lord (v.2). He said Saul had secretly set a snare to stop him (v.3). So, he pleaded to God to be his refuge (v.5), to deliver him from his persecutor (Saul) and to bring his soul out of prison (v.6)!
And then, what happened? God answered David’s prayer right away by sending Saul into his cave! Hallelujah! Now David could solve all his problems at once by killing Saul! But, of course, he didn’t do that! He refused to harm the Lord’s anointed!
But I believe through that experience, David was set free from his stress about Saul! Before, he thought Saul was in control and wanted to kill him! But after his cave experience, he realized it was God who was in control! Let’s remember this valuable lesson when we feel overwhelmed! It’s God who’s in control!

Devotion 2 of 2: 2 Thess 2

This chapter is very important to understand. One enigma is the identity of the restrainer in v.7-8a, “7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. 8 And then the lawless one will be revealed…”
Many Bible teachers believe the restrainer to be the Holy Spirit, who will restrain the lawless one (AC) from being revealed until the Spirit is taken out of the way. That’s why it’s capitalized as “He.”
But I believe two words are wrongly translated here. One is “He” and the other is “taken out of the way.” The Greek word translated “He” is “ὁ,” which is better translated “what.” The Greek for “taken out of the way” is “genētai.” It appears 46 times in the NT, and is translated as: is accomplished, be fulfilled, comes to pass, etc.
Based on this, I would like to translate v.7 this way: “For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only what now restrains will do so until it comes to pass.” So, the restrainer will not be taken out of the way, but will come to pass! So, what is it? I believe it is “the time of restoration,” because Acts 3:20-21 say that Jesus cannot return until the time of restoration happens! When it’s time for the church to be restored, then AC will be revealed!
