Devotion 1 of 2: 1 Sam 23
TUE, 1/14 (1/2)
1 SAM 23: Free sharing!
This chapter describes how David’s men saved the city of Keilah from the Philistines in v.1-13, and how the Lord saved David from being captured by Saul in v.14-29.
The Philistines were attacking Keilah and robbing their harvest. When David heard about it, he inquired of the Lord twice whether he should help them or not, and both times the Lord directed him to go. So, he went and God gave David and his men a great victory!
But Saul heard that David was at Keilah, so he decided to attack Keilah to capture David. When David found out, he asked the Lord if Keilah would deliver him to Saul and the answer was that they will! So, David and his men left Keilah.
Appl: One observation we can make is that David’s men increased to 600 from 400 in chapter 22. And also, they grew in strength and could defeat the Philistine army that attacked Keilah! So, they were truly being transformed from losers to winners! That’s a picture of us if we follow Jesus in the endtime!
Another observation is that the secret of their victory was that David always inquired of the Lord, twice in the battle against the Philistines, and once in escaping from Saul! Let’s also always seek God’s will in our everyday battles.

Devotion 2 of 2: 1 Sam 24
This chapter tells of God delivering Saul into David’s hand at a cave at En Gedi. David was hiding in the cave with some of his men, and that’s where Saul entered, too! One of his men urged David to kill Saul, but David refused, calling Saul the Lord’s anointed, and only cut a piece of Saul’s robe.
After Saul left the cave, David came out and showed Saul the piece that he had cut. Saul recognized David was right, and he was evil. He even confessed that David would one day be king of Israel.
Appl: We should learn from David’s attitude as to how we should behave toward denominational churches who think we are wrong. We should honor them as our seniors in the faith and thank God for their contributions to the kingdom of God. But we should not compromise our stand on endtime revival and not bowing to AC.
