Devotion 1 of 2: Ps 104
This psalm is a praise to God for His creation and providence. I want to focus on v.1-2, “O Lord my God, You are very great: You are clothed with honor and majesty, Who cover Yourself with light as with a garment, Who stretch out the heavens like a curtain.”
First, v.1 says that God is very great. We didn’t realize how great until 1924, when Edwin Hubble discovered that our galaxy, the Milky Way, was not the entire universe, but just one of many other galaxies. Eventually, Hubble declared that there were millions of other galaxies in the universe. This vastly stretched out the heavens (v.2) and mightily expanded our concept of how great Creator God is!
Then in 1990, the Hubble Space Telescope was launched into space. It needed some repairs, and since 1993, has been stretching out our understanding of the universe even more. Today, astronomers estimate there are around 2 trillion galaxies in the universe, each with perhaps 100M to 200M stars!
Truly, we can say with the psalmist, “Bless the Lord, all His works (trillions of galaxies!), in all places of His dominion (over this vast universe!). Bless the Lord, O my soul!” (v.22)
REV 2: Free sharing!
This chapter contains Jesus’ message to the first 4 churches of the 7 churches of Rev 2-3. I believe these churches represent churches that existed in John’s day, and also symbolize various periods in church history, and also show some of the characteristics of churches at the end of time.
I want to point out just one verse, v.10, “Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.”
The Smyrna Church was told they would be tested by tribulation for 10 days, but if they were faithful till death, they would be given the crown of life. I want to apply this to our 10 days of prayer until Pentecost that we do every month.
10 is the number of testing in the Bible. As the disciples were tested to pray for 10 days until the Holy Spirit was poured out upon them, we are being tested to pray for 10 days every month. I believe if we are faithful to God and pass the test, we will experience a great revival that will transform us into endtime harvesters as the disciples were transformed into 1st century harvesters by their Pentecostal experience!
Let’s seek God for revival with all our hearts! Let’s pass the 10 days test and reach the goal of being transformed into Japan endtime harvest workers!
