Devotion 1 of 2: Deut 12
In v.16 and v.23-24, Moses commanded Israel not to eat the blood of animals but to pour it out on the earth. Why was eating animal blood bad? In Bible times, medical science had not advanced enough to know the reason, so the Jews just obeyed God by faith.
But today, medical science points out that eating animal blood can be dangerous because it often contains bacteria and pathogens, which can cause serious diseases! This is an example of God’s wisdom guiding and protecting Israel long before medial science discovered the reasons for not drinking blood! Let’s obey God, even when we don’t understand the details because he knows best!

Devotion 2 of 2: Mark 12
In v.38-40, Jesus said about the scribes that they made long prayers and did other religious acts to be noticed by others. Here the Lord pointed out two important facts about prayer—it doesn’t have to be long, and it shouldn’t be done to impress people!
I think the most important thing about prayer is that it should be from the heart, genuine and without pretense! After all, God can see our heart, and so adding flowerly language or speaking in long sentences doesn’t mean anything to him! He just wants us to talk with him honestly and sincerely. Let’s pray like that during our SIRP times!
