Devotion 1 of 2: Num 31

NUM 31: This chapter describes the last war Moses commanded before dying. It was against Midian to avenge their luring Israel into immorality and Baal worship, for which 24,000 Israelis died (Num 25:9).
One fact to note is that the prophet Balaam caused this incident by advising King Balak of how to defeat Israel (Rev 2:14). Balaam probably did that to appease Balak because the king was angry at him for prophesying to bless Israel (Num 23-24). So Balaam was also killed (v.8).
One lesson here is that although the enemy failed the 1st time to curse Israel, he didn’t give up and was successful the 2nd time, using different tactics. After achieving victory over sin, let’s not let our guard down because Satan will try again to tempt us!
