Devotion 1 of 2: Lev 16
1) The 1st goat symbolized Jesus’ body. This goat was killed, its blood taken into the Holy of Holies and sprinkled on the Mercy Seat (v.15). Jesus’ body was killed, its blood shed, then sprinkled in the Most Holy Place in heaven (Heb 9:11-15, 24).
2) The 2nd goat, the scapegoat, symbolized Jesus’ soul. The High Priest laid his hands on it, transferring all of Israel’s sins to it. Then the scapegoat carried those sins into the wilderness and was released there (v.21-22).
All of mankind’s sins were transferred to Jesus, as symbolized by the cup he had to drink in Matt 26:39; he didn’t want to, but it was God’s will and humanity’s only way of forgiveness, so he did it. When that happened on the cross, the sun was supernaturally eclipsed for 3 hours (Matt 27:45)! It was the Father turning away from the Son, which caused Jesus to cry out, “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?” (Matt 27:46).
*Scapegoat to the wilderness: When Jesus died, Acts 2:27, 31 say his soul went to Hades (to the place of suffering). He took all our sins there and received the punishment for those sins in our place.

Devotion 2 of 2: Acts 16
(2/2)
This is an exciting chapter describing Paul and Silas’ ministry and miraculous deliverance in Philippi (v.12-34). But I want to focus on the topic of salvation for the whole family. I believe this is what God wants.
We see 2 examples of this in this chapter. First, a woman named Lydia is converted in Philippi, and her household also believed and were baptized (v.14-15)!
Then a jailer was converted when Paul and Silas saved his life by not escaping when an earthquake caused all the prison doors to break open (v.25-31). His family also believed and received baptism (v.33).
God gave us a promise that if we believe our household would also be saved (v.26)! Let’s believe for our parents, siblings, other family members and all relatives to hear the gospel and get saved!
