Devotion 1 of 2: James 2
1) James cites Abraham offering Isaac on the altar as an illustration of justification by works (v.21) because Abraham’s faith was made perfect by his works, and that’s how “Abraham believed God and it was accounted to him for righteousness.”
2) Paul claims that Abraham was accounted righteous while he was uncircumcised, not while he was circumcised (Rom 4:9-10). This allowed him to become the father of faith to Gentiles, too, who believe while uncircumcised, so that righteousness can be imputed to them, also (Rom 4:11).
3) James’ viewpoint is necessary for those who say they believe but whose lifestyle don’t follow the Bible, while Paul’s viewpoint is necessary for those who believe but lack peace because of their weaknesses. So both teachings are necessary to meet the needs of different people.

Devotion 2 of 2: Lam 1
Judah’s pain and sorrow are evident in this chapter (v.1-6). And the cause of her sins is also made clear (v.8-9). This book serves as a warning to God’s people that forsaking Him will result in defeat and pain.
