Devotion 1 of 2: 2 Cor 1
1) Going through tribulation prepares us for ministry to others because we can share with them the comfort, wisdom and encouragement we received through our experience.
2) This experience is of a sister in the church. Many years ago, a woman suddenly entered our church while we were praying in small groups. I asked her to join the nearest group but they were only young people. They tried to talk with her, but she was not happy. So I called an older sister to talk with her, and the woman opened up immediately and began talking a lot. I found out later that her husband was threatening to divorce her, and she wanted to talk with someone about her problems. The sister who talked with her had gone through a divorce herself, so was able to share from her experience and comfort the woman. The young people were sincere, but they couldn’t comfort her.

Devotion 2 of 2: Eccl 1
When Solomon tried to find the meaning of life by his own efforts and wisdom, he ended up with the conclusion: “Vanity of vanities, all is vanity” (v.2)! Modern man believes that science has replaced religion as the solver of life’s problems and questions, and that we don’t need God anymore. That may be true for man-made gods that are not real, but not the real God, the Creator of the universe and man! Why? Because science has created as many problems as it has solved, such as: powerful guns and artillery that can kill people and destroy buildings; nuclear weapons that can destroy cities, countries and the world; chemical and biological weapons that can cause terrible sickness, suffering and death; and many technological inventions that greatly improved our standard of living, but that also polluted nature and caused global warming, which is the greatest threat to mankind and the planet that we have ever faced! So modern man can also say, Vanity of vanities, all is vanity!
