Devotion 2 of 2: Prov 23
“Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you strike him with a rod, he will not die. If you strike him with the rod, you will save his soul from Sheol.” (v.13-14). When I was single, I heard messages about the need to discipline children with authority, so that’s what I decided to do. But in doing so, I made mistakes and overdid the discipline many times. One of my children was affected badly, and sometimes felt he/she didn’t want to live. I think my over-discipline damaged his/her self-esteem. He/she might have thought, “If Dad treats me like this, I must not have much value!” When I finally realized my mistake (through my wife!), I really repented and vowed to that child that I would never treat him/her like that again! Praise God that he healed our relationship, and we love each other deeply now.
