Devotion 1 of 2: Luke 22
1) Because Jesus had to be buried before 6PM, which was the start of the Sabbath (23:50-56). But that Sabbath was not a Saturday, but 1/15, which was the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread. Work was not allowed that day, making it a holiday Sabbath (Lev 23:5-7). The day before, 1/14, was the Passover. So Jesus was crucified on 1/14, the Passover, and he was buried before 6PM, the start of 1/15, the first day of Unleavened Bread. So that’s why we can say that Jesus’ Passover meal with the disciples was one day before the Jews’ Passover meal.
2) He was being crucified as the Passover Lamb for all humanity.
I would like to post this timeline for the crucifixion to help us to realize how understanding Israel's feasts is important.
1/13. 3-5PM (Wed). Disciples prepare the Last Supper.
1/14. 6-9PM. Passover Day begins. Jesus eats Last Supper w/ disciples (their Passover meal).
1/14. 10PM-5AM. Jesus prays at Gethsemane.
1/14. 6-9AM (Thu). Jesus arrested and put on trial.
1/14. 9AM-3PM. Jesus crucified; Jews prepare their Passover meal.
1/14. 3PM. Jesus dies; Jews kill their Passover lamb.
1/14. 5PM. Jesus buried; Jews finish preparing their Passover meal.
1/15. 6PM. First day of Unleavened Bread begins. This is a holiday Sabbath, not Saturday Sabbath. Jews eat their Passover meal.

Devotion 2 of 2: Prov 22
“Make no friendship with a man given to anger, nor go with a wrathful man, lest you learn his ways and entangle yourself in a snare.” (v.24-25) These verses apply to the people who were deceived by the former leader of the US. That leader angrily lied that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him. His wrath stimulated a mob to attack the US Capital on Jan 6, 2021, bringing shame to the US, the world’s leading democratic nation. Recently, over 1000 people in that mob have been found guilty in court for their crimes. The worst offenders have been sentenced to 15, 17 and 18 years in prison. Next to appear in court will be the former leaders’ close associates, many of them lawyers and business people. They tried various ways to “steal back” the election and were stopped. Now they will be tried in courts, and if found guilty, they will face: losing their lawyers’ licenses, paying punitive damages of perhaps millions of dollars, being imprisoned, losing their businesses, etc. So many of the former leaders’ friends have become entangled in snares, even prison, because they believed his anger and his lies!
