Devotion 1 of 2: 2 Kings 5
1) I think God dealt with Naaman’s pride. First, he had to humble himself to listen to advice from his wife’s Jewish servant (v.3). Then he had to overcome his anger at Elisha for not meeting him directly but sending his messenger instead (v.10-11). Further, he had to get over his prejudiced feelings that the rivers of Damascus were better than the Jordan (v.12). Then finally he had to put aside his anger and his own opinions and listen to his servants (v.13)! But when Naaman did all of that, he was healed (v.14)!
2) I want to be more humble and listen and consider other people’s advice as well as my wife Yoshiko’s advice more, and when possible, try to accommodate them.

Devotion 2 of 2: 2 Kings 6
1) The king wanted to kill Elisha because Elisha had directed the king not to strike the Syrian army when they had the chance to do so in v.20-23, and now the Syrians were besieging Israel (v.24)! But the king’s thinking was wrong because later on God would punish the Syrians for forgetting Israel’s kindness and for besieging Samaria. God punished them by causing the Syrians to hear the sound of an army attacking them and causing them to flee in fear in 7:6-7!
2) I need to learn not to make judgments too quickly without really hearing the voice of the Lord. Many times those judgments will be wrong and may even cause damage. Help me, Lord, to move according to the Spirit and not my flesh.
