Devotion 2 of 2: Matt 7
1) It is not a contradiction if we take the plank (of judging) out of our eye first (v.5). But even after looking with eyes of love, if we see the person’s heart will not treat what is sacred in the right way, we do not give it to them to prevent them from trampling it under their feet and bringing a greater judgment upon themselves. Also, if we call people dogs or pigs today, that would be disrespectful and a sin. But it was part of the culture of Jesus’ day and was accepted.
2) a. Their prophecies don’t come true (Deut 18:22).
b. Even though their sign comes to pass, they lead people to a different god or doctrine (Deut 13:1-3).
c. Their character is bad; little fruit of the Spirit (Matt 7:15-16; Gal 5:22-23).
