Devotion 1 of 2: 1 Kings 20

Syria gathered 32 kings to join in war against Israel (v.1)! Syria should have won, but Israel defeated Syria, not only once, but twice (v.21, 29)! However, King Ahab didn’t kill King Ben-hadad of Syria, but made a covenant with him and let him go (v.34)! Later on, a prophet of God rebuked Ahab and said he would die in place of Ben-hadad (v.42)! I think this incident showed that Ahab lacked a true warrior spirit. Like he did for Ahab, God will rescue the LDC from attacks from our enemy, AC, and will even give us the authority to consume them (Rev 11:5)! I think the lesson from this chapter is that the LDC needs to develop a warrior spirit to not hesitate to strike back against AC’s forces!

Devotion 2 of 2: Isa 1

1) The LDC will be persecuted by AC, and it will be terrifying, even as Jezebel’s threat was terrifying to Elijah and he ran for his life (v.1-3)! He even fell into depression in v.4 and was only able to get deliverance by receiving care from God and taking a break by just eating and sleeping (v.5-8). When we face AC's threats, we'll need intimate relationship with God to overcome!
2) Elijah thinks he’s the only one left (v.10), but God tells him there are 7000 who haven’t bowed to Baal (v.18)! When the LDC goes through persecution, we may feel like we’re the only ones left, but there will actually be many thousands or millions who will be faithful to God! When God spoke to Elijah, it was in a low whisper, not in the wind or earthquake or fire (v.11-12)! Our relationship with God will often be based on the quiet, intimate times, not on the loud, showy times!
