Devotion 1 of 2: 1 Pet 2
1) The Jews rejected Jesus because he didn’t fit their image of a Messiah, the one who they thought would deliver them from Roman oppression and establish their kingdom again! But Jesus became the foundation stone of a spiritual kingdom, the church!
2) Jesus is a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense when he doesn’t fit into our expectations or demands. To the Jews that meant he didn’t deliver them from Rome or didn’t follow their traditions like keeping the Sabbath, etc. To Gentiles that means being the only way to salvation and to God, etc.
Devotion 2 of 2: Jer 46
The Jews who feared Neb. and tried to avoid him escaped to Egypt where they thought they would be safe, but Neb. invaded and defeated Egypt (v.2), and many of the Jews there were killed or taken captive, although God did save and restore some (v.28). In applying this to the endtime, many Christians today believe in the pre-trib rapture teaching because they fear AC and think that God will protect them through the rapture. So, in a sense, they are using the pre-trib rapture teaching as a means of escape from AC. But if it doesn’t happen, it will lead to disaster for many Christians because they will stumble and fall away from the faith (2 Thes 2:3) because they will not be prepared to face AC! When threatened with execution, there is the danger that many will compromise and worship AC’s image or take his mark in order to save themselves or their families! So we must warn them with love and humility to save AMAP from apostasy!
