1) Peninnah had children and provoked Hannah to irritate her (v.6). Hannah was barren, suffered from Peninnah’s attacks and desperately wanted to have children (v.2-10)!
2) Hannah vowed that if God gave her a son, he would give him to the Lord all his days, and no razor would touch his head (v.11). This fulfilled the calling that God had given to Samson, which he failed to fulfill (Dedicated to God from the womb, no razor shall touch his head.) (Judg 13:2-6)
3) When Samuel was weaned, Hannah took him to the house of the Lord at Shiloh and gave him to God (v.24-28).

1) Eli was very old (v.22). He could not discipline his sons (v.22-25), so God said he would judge them (v.27-36). Many church groups in Christianity are very old, and some groups have not disciplined their priests or pastors very well, which has caused much scandal and shame.
2) Eli’s 2 sons were scoundrels, did not respect the Lord (v.12), would take the best meat (v.13-15), treated the Lord’s offerings with contempt (v.17), slept with women in the Tabernacle, and caused the people to stumble (v.22-25).
3) By contrast, Samuel ministered before the Lord under Eli (v.11) and grew in stature and in favor with God and man (v.26)! In applying to the church, Eli and his sons symbolize the Midieval Church, the Dark Age Church, which lost God’s presence and blessing, and Samuel symbolizes Revival that sparks the church and draws it closer to God!
