Devotion 1 of 2: Deut 14
I think God called some animals unclean is because eating them would be harmful to humans. Today we eat some animals that the OT calls unclean, like pigs, because modern farm methods have eliminated much of the harm their meat contained in the past, and now they are safe to eat.

Devotion 2 of 2: Mark 14
Jesus wanted he and the disciples to pray to strengthen themselves for the trials they would face the next day (v.32-34). Jesus prayed through (v.35-42) and consequently was able to overcome the terrible difficulties that confronted him and fulfilled his mission to provide salvation to mankind! Unfortunately, the disciples all fell asleep (v.37-41) and so weren’t spiritually prepared and consequently forsook Jesus and fled in the face of the threatening mob!
