Devotion 1 of 2: Deut 11

In Israel’s annual agricultural calendar, the spring rain falls in March-April and is followed by the barley and wheat grain harvests in April-June. Then before and during the autumn rain, which falls around September-October, the grape (June-September) and olive (September-November) harvests take place.

Devotion 2 of 2: Mark 11

Many times in the Bible, the fig tree represents Israel. When Jesus looked for fruit in the fig tree but found none (v.13), he declared that no one would ever eat fruit from that tree again (v.14). I believe this is a picture of Israel being cut off as the special covenant people of God at the cross because they rejected Jesus as their Messiah. This same theme is found in Jesus driving out people who were defiling the temple (v.15). He declared that the temple should be called a house of prayer for all nations (v.17)! This is a picture of Jews being cast out of the temple and it becoming a temple for all nations!

The Jews will never ever be the only special covenant people of God anymore! They must be saved and join the house of prayer for all nations like any other people group! And this will happen at the end of time! Antichrist will attack and kill perhaps 2/3 of the Jews in Israel at the Battle of Armageddon (Zech 13:8)! They will desperately call on the Messiah to save them, and Jesus will return and rescue them (13:9)! Then he will reveal his wounds, and they will realize the Messiah is Jesus, whom they crucified (13:6)! They will weep and repent (12:10) and be saved (13:1)!
